Lush Products & Reviews

Happy summertime! The birds are chirping outside my window, the sun is shining, and life feels pretty darn good.

Since it’s summertime and my skin gets a little extra loving from the sun, I thought this would be the perfect time to make a post about some of my favorite products from Lush. I’ve said this many times before, but Lush is a GREAT COMPANY! Seriously, if you haven’t checked them out yet you’re missing out!

So, without further ado, welcome to my little Lush collection!

Love Lettuce

Love Lettuce 2

Love Lettuce: $6.95 (in stores only)

Love Lettuce was the first ever fresh face mask that I bought from Lush, and it’s perfect for my sensitive/dry/acne prone skin! It’s calming and gentle while still being a scrubby mask. I give it 3 stars out of 5 based on the fact that it doesn’t necessarily create much difference in your skin–it’s just nice to use every once in a while to give your face a little extra lovin’ and attention!

Jackie Oates

Jackie Oates 2

Jackie Oates: $16.95

This is a colour supplement that can be used as either a tinted moisturizer, concealer, or foundation. I typically use my Jackie Oates as a foundation because it’s incredibly lightweight and it has wonderful coverage! It never looks cakey and it genuinely feels like I’ve just got a bit of moisturizer on my face. It also gives off a more dewy look, which is great for dry skin that’s in need of hydration! This product earns 4 stars from me because the only negative about it is the price; it’s a little steep for the amount of product you get (0.7 oz) but I just make sure to use it wisely!

Aqua Marina

Aqua Marina 2

Aqua Marina$12.95-$31.95

* * * *

First of all, this just might be the strangest hygienic product I have ever encountered! I decided to give Aqua Marina a try after reading the positive reviews on it, and I am extremely pleased that I did. This is what’s known as a “cleanser roll” and you essentially just take a chunk out of it and add a bit of water to it, rub it into your hands, and apply it to your face (or anywhere else you desire). The seaweed in it helps to nourish the skin, while the pink extract is useful for sensitive/irritated spots. I’m a huge fan of this cleanser and I’ll definitely be restocking whenever I run out! The only “bad” thing about this product, in my opinion, is the slight smell it gives off–it’s not awful, but it’s certainly not my favorite scent.

Celestial

Celestial 2

Celestial$24.95

* * * * *

Prior to Celestial, I had struggled to find a facial moisturizer that suited my skin type, but now I can’t imagine myself using anything else! Not only does this product smell wonderful (vanilla and almond, mmm) but it leaves my skin feeling soft and hydrated. Since it has almond oil as an ingredient, there is a tinge of “greasiness” that comes along with it, so if your skin is naturally oily I would check out the many other Lush moisturizers that could better suite your skin type. Just a dab of this does the trick after each face wash, and your face will be thanking you in return!

Mask of Magnaminty

Mask of Magnaminty 2

Mask Of Magnaminty$12.95-$24.95

* * * * *

Minty, minty, minty! This face mask is one that will definitely wake you up and liven up your skin! Much like the Love Lettuce face mask, it is an exfoliant that goes on easy and is a sure treat for your skin. I use this mask once or twice a week because I don’t want it to overdo it (trust me, just a few times a week is plenty) and I always end up feeling rejuvenated and awake. I love everything about this mask, especially the fact that my dull skin comes to life whenever I use it.

Let me know if there are any Lush products that you’ve tried (and love) that I haven’t mentioned here! I hope this summer is one filled with laughter, memories, and happy skin!

Favorite Etsy Shops

ZzhYyw8X

Since we’re nearing the end of this school year, my bank account is dwindling very quickly. So what do I do when I have no money to spend? Online shop, naturally. AKA, put a ridiculous amount of items in my cart, look at the total, remember I’m broke, sigh deeply, and close out of the tab. It’s a vicious cycle.

I’m a big Etsy lover, and whenever I’m in the mood for something unique and fun, I always head there to see what I can drool over. I have had a positive experience with my Etsy purchases in the past, so allow me to share my favorites with you!

1. Amordress

I bought a dress from this shop last spring, and I love it! There are pages upon pages of cute dresses, bags, and jewelry-and they’re all relatively inexpensive. It ships from Thailand, but the shipping is quick and reliable. Plus, this dress is absolutely darling.

 2. Soapwalla Kitchen

I have only bought the deodorant cream from Soapwalla before, but they have so many different products to suit different needs. The best part? They’re all organic and cruelty free!

3. PetitPlat

I haven’t gotten around to actually purchasing anything from this shop yet, but about 90% of my favorited items are all from here! They are such cute, delicate, quirky pieces of jewelry. There’s just something about miniature fruit that sucks me in.

My Favorite Cruelty Free Products

tumblr_static_6vgz7a0o2igw4gkgkkc8wkocg

Recently I wrote a post about animal testing and cruelty free products (which you should totally check out if you haven’t already!!!) and today I decided to show you all some of my absolute favorite cruelty free products. None of these are makeup products, but I plan on doing a post about that in the near future!

Prior to December I would wash my hair every day. Every. Single. Day. At the time I wasn’t aware of how bad that is for your hair, but over the past three month I’ve trained my hair not to need to be washed everyday! I usually shampoo about once a week, so on my off days I use dry shampoo. I’ve never been a fan of dry shampoo before; it always made me feel dandruffy and messy, but I was convinced to try out the Blow Pro Faux Dry  ($20). Long story short-I LOVE IT! It’s a powder substance, much like baby powder and all you do is shake it and then squeeze the bottle directly onto your hair and Voila! No more greasy hair!

Top Right

I started using the Yes To Tomatoes face wash ($9.99) and moisturizer ($11.19) only about a week ago, but I can already see major improvements. Not only does it clear up acne really well, but it also helps to get rid of those pesky, blotchy red spots. I use these every morning and night, and I wake up every morning with bright, glowing skin! One of the cool things about the Yes To brand is that they have different lines of products for a variety of skin types: normal/dry, sensitive, oily/acne prone, fine lines/wrinkles and uneven skin tones. And each of them are accompanied with different fruit or veggie based products!

Bottom Left

I’ll be honest with you, natural deodorants are not fun. I’ve tried three different natural deodorant sticks and I’ve been extremely unhappy with each of them-I stunk. It got to the point that I was so fed up with them and myself that I took to google to see if anyone had any advice on this particular subject. Thankfully I found a blog post about it and a lot of the people in the comments were suggesting SoapWalla. I found the SoapWalla shop on Etsy and decided to try out their deodorant cream ($14.99). It has completely changed my life for the better. It’s made of vegetable powders, clays and essential oils so it hasn’t got the most appealing scent, but it is incredibly effective. I went like, three days without showering and I still smelt amazing. Okay, maybe “amazing” is a bit over the top, but I definitely wasn’t stinky anymore!

Bottom Right

I’ve been using the Organix brand of shampoo and conditioner for quite some time now, and it easily trumps any other shampoo/conditioner I’ve used before. My favorite is the Argan Oil ($7.99) one, but there is a HUGE selection of different scents that suit different types of hair. This shampoo has never left my hair feeling greasy or straw-like or anything of the sort. Plus it smells delicious!

Hopefully this is helpful for those of you who are in the process of adopting a cruelty free life! Have a good weekend!

Favorite TV Shows on Netflix

I think this post is long overdue, but better late than never! I’ve watched my fair share of TV shows on Netflix and I’ve come up with a list of my Top 10 (even though I still have another 20 on my To-Watch list).

1. Revenge

latest

If it weren’t for my friend Autumn, I probably would have never started watching Revenge. But she got me hooked from episode one and the rest is history. Revenge is an ABC drama but the lead character is a kick-ass woman and her “sidekick” is one of my favorite characters of any TV show. The cliffhangers at the end of each episode will be the cause of your binge watching an entire season in one day.  You’re welcome.

2. Freaks and Geeks

140527_CBOX_FreaksGeeks.jpg.CROP.promo-mediumlarge

Unfortunately there’s only 1 season of this show, but it is worth the watch anyways! It’s from 1999 but it is so great. It’s funny and lighthearted and Sam (aka John Francis Daley) is so relatable in this show.

3. Teen Wolf

teen-wolf-season-1-poster-1

I KNOW I’M SUCH A DORK FOR THIS. But I think this show is absolute gold. I mean who doesn’t like teen angst and werewolves and Dylan O’Brien?

4. Gossip Girl

latest (1)

If you wanna talk about angst, this is the show for it. I’m pretty sure I watched the entire 6 seasons in the span of a few weeks so it all kind of jumbles together in my brain but I can assure you that it is full of drama and eye rolling moments and millions of reasons to dislike each and every character, but at the end it all comes together. Trust me.

5. New Girl

7529

I’m in love with Zooey Deschanel so it’s not a surprise that this show is so dear to my heart. I have never laughed so hard and so many times during a TV show like I do whenever I watch New Girl. It’s truly one of the most genuinely funny shows out there, in my opinion.

6. Orange is the New Black

orange

Wow, talk about binge watching. This show is so so so amazing. It’s centered around women (in prison) and it’s not too often that you come across a TV show that is all about women. And not just white women but Women of Color and Transwomen as well. Plus it’s hilarious and highly quotable.

7. Skins

skins

If you want to see me cry and question the meaning of life, just put an episode of Skins in front of me. After I finished the series I had to take a few days to pull myself together. Also, it allows me to live vicariously through groups of British teenagers that have a much more…colorful life than I do.

8. The Office

the-office

I don’t think there’s even any words that can describe how great of a TV show this is. Honestly, if you haven’t watched it yet, it’s a MUST. It gets progressively funnier with each episode and your life will be forever changed.

9. Gilmore Girls

tv_gilmore_girls04

Since this is the most recent series I watched, it’s very special to me. I love that it centers around a single mom and her daughter and shows the relationship between the two of them and the importance of that relationship. It’s extremely witty and endearing and overall just a really good watch. Also, Paris Geller is my idol.

10. Parks and Recreation

parks-and-recreation-season6

Last but NEVER least, my pal Parks. This show is absolutely hilarious. The first season is a bit tough to get through but I promise you it gets sooooo much better. I’m actually considering re-watching it sometime in the near future!

So there you have it! These are shows that have shaped who I am today (ha ha, I’m not kidding). What are your favorite TV shows on Netflix?
